Bathroom Renovation Heaven or Hell
After dealing with so many updated and luxurious RI coastal real estate homes lately, my plan was to gut my master bath early summer.
It is a blah white tiled bathroom with a pink rose border that makes me sick. I have tolerated the poor taste in tile since I moved in. There is wall tile that is on the floor which i have slipped on a couple times. The composite something of a sink is just ugly now.
So I want everything done by someone else. Just do it. Well of course I want the estimates. First, it is shopping for a vanity at the local bathroom store. I find a great Cabico cabinet and silestone for counter and a sink. The owner said he'll get me a remnant for the counter don't worry about it. Hmm... After the sketch of the bathroom that I approved, I hear the cost of the cabinet: priced at $3400. No that is not going to work either.
The bathroom contractor is highly recommended. My son says he does excellent work but not in my book at nearly $30,000. Alot of work in that quote and many dollars I don't have to burn. I feel like I'm buying a mini condo at this point!
My gimpy friend ( she just had ACL surgery but that doesn't stop her) took me out to the tile stores yesterday. She said you need to look and see what is out there, there are cheaper alternatives to find and I will help you. Thank goodness! For a real estate agent who can be so decisive, I'm being terrible about this renovation. So tile finds can be found and also fall in love tile at $30 a square foot! No that will not work either.
Bathroom renovations are never easy and I have done them in the past with contractors from hell. I did learn an invaluable lesson. You get many times what you pay for. However, since I have a smaller home with only 1 other bath the outside shower has to be enclosed so I can keep my booty from golf course viewers 500 feet away! Oh I just ripped the outside shower out last year so that has to be put back together too. My list seems to be getting longer...bathroom renovation from hell is envisioned.
I have told everyone this bathroom is on hold for now...Whoa...call me chicken little....I am not feeling up to the bathroom condo build right now! It is these experiences that bring us closer to understanding why a package build deal on
new construction makes so much sense. Bathroom Renovation Heaven or Hell.
