It's Our 21st century Day of Remembrance

Days that define our being are forever embedded in our minds...today is our 21st century day of Remembrance of  9/11/01.  For me that day is as clear as yesterday... as I traveled around to my retail branches in my financial job at the time.  My son was in college in New York City not far from ground zero doing film work and I could not reach him by cell.  The slow motion of the day kept unfolding around me as families tried to contact the ones they loved in that locale - whether they worked there or lived there.

My brother was editing a commercial in his studio blocks away from ground zero and saw the second tower come down...he couldn't talk to anyone for days.  My niece lives in Tribeca and was taking her daughter to school when she saw people jumping out of windows to escape the inferno...there are so many individual ingrained moments of this day of 9/11 that will always be with all of us.

I prayed for all the families
and could not imagine the horror they experienced through our visual media that presented itself to us.  The municipal responders for all their brave efforts that will always be remembered.  Today is their day.  It's a day to respect all our troops far and wide that put themselves at risk everyday for us no matter what our political beliefs may be.  It is a different world as we found out...we had so insulated ourselves mentally from the rest of the world on terrorism.

My son was finally able to communicate with a relative by late afternoon on 9/11 to let her know he was ok and to let me know.  Relief was an understatement for what I felt.   It hurt so much that others could not feel this relief as I had.

So take this day to appreciate the ones you love, the freedom you have and remember those lost and those remaining in military service everywhere.  It's our 21st century day of Remembrance.
