McKay's Furniture storeat 118 Lafayette Road in North Kingstown RI 02852 is all about being in existence for 110 years. Isn't that incredible for a home town furniture store! To survive and compete successfully with the big box furniture stores is quite a feat today...but McKay's Furniture does it quite successfully...now how do they do it?
Well they carry quality furniture, deliver great customer service to their customers and have a fiercely loyal customer base (per one of the owners, Keith) that keep coming back for more! Oh, of course they have a lot of what people want and being on the cutting edge design wise certainly adds to attracting clientele.
McKay's Furniture has been owned and operated by the same family since inception in 1900- now the founding McKay has three grandchildren (Kerry, Scott & Keith) at the helm of the store. So there is that home town ownership thing going on here too. They also have another store, McKay's Front Porch, which is located at 751 Ten Rod Road in North Kingstown, RI which houses all kinds of summer furniture (or outdoor living furniture as they call it) for customers too. Well I came in for the advertised 'dutch auction' a couple of weeks ago, since
I had never experienced one, and had my mind set on finding a small love seat to replace one that just was beyond salvaging. I found it here at a great price and also found a great salesperson, Mikhaela Barbera, too. Efficient, personable and knowledgeable is what I want from a salesperson when I come into a store and she had it all going for her.
I made an appointment to come back and asked to do this post & video on McKay's Furniture with the owners. So Mikhaela suggested that she would re-stage some of the display rooms for me since the Dutch auction cleared them out of a lot of accessories and furniture.
I focused on one part of the store in the video - their coastal rooms but they have rooms of desks, chairs, dining room sets, rugs and more...it is worth seeing this 110 years of being in North Kingstown RI.
