What's in a name... your name has been an interesting question ? to me. And I'll explain...
Now all I could do as he made his case for my taking his last name was just look at him and wonder where did this come from...oh boy, still waters do run deep I said to myself...
Guess what, I acquiesced and took his last name, a good name, but not the one I really wanted to have...professionally everyone knew me as Lacey. It was about keeping peace at that time and wasn't that important after I thought about it.
Well as you can tell I liked my last name and if I had a girl instead of boys I would have named her Lacey.
Alas, it was not to be...boys ran in my former husband's family something to do with the 'Y' chromosome I'm told...anyway my boys have simple bible names... and they're still great kids...lol.
So when we dissolved our marriage I thought I would go back to my maiden name but at that point we had been married so long that everyone knew me with my new last name....so I left it as is, Gorman.
One day my son had a girlfriend he brought home to me with her first name Lacey, spelled the same way as my maiden name and she was adorable...I really couldn't believe it. My possible answer was my last name in a future daughter in law...well that was not to be either and eventually differences between them were realized and they parted. I always wondered whether subconsciously my son was trying to honor a request I had vocalized by being drawn to this woman?
Again my favorite name was lost in the abyss...I'm glad I didn't have a last name like perennial or annual because I wouldn't want to name a child that even though I like plants.
So I made my middle name Lacey and use it constantly now...it is an identifier and part of who I am as a person.
When I joined ActiveRain one of the first people I connected with was Mike Conner in Washington state and I believed he commented early in my blogging life and I was thrilled that someone actually wanted to comment on my blog! Guess what - he is from Lacey, Washington! Now is that strange or what! So I found another connection to my name here on Active Rain.
So I do believe there is more in a name and hopefully there is a voice too that has
risen from this name and I thank ActiveRain for my finding it here. It is that voice I have found on ActiveRain that comes forward that allows me to connect with fellow bloggers, clients and interested people. So ell me what's in your name? Do you have a story too...
