This is our 'Bermuda' in RI so come to Block Island RI for the Taste of Block Island RI June 4 - June 6. The 2nd annual event celebrated by all the businesses and residents of Block Island to draw non-islanders to come on over to this glorious 2 1/2 mile stretch of island land - just a ferry trip away from the mainland of Point Judith, RI.
It was a rousing, successful event last year and so for just $5 for the Taste of Block Island RI button you get to save on food, gifts, lodging and all sorts of doings on Rhode Island's most pristine island for this weekend...an island which we do and don't want to share. When it gets truly discovered does it change immeasurably so the locals can't enjoy it like they do? It's always a concern that this special island maintains it's wonderful balance of beauty, living style and yet allows business to grow properly.
There is so much to do here! You can take your bikes over for the day or rent mopeds to get around or just plan to use the good ole soled shoes to enjoy this marvelous island from bluffs to beaches. From the 17 miles of Block Island's coastline beaches, wonderful town and light houses, music and good eats this is a getaway paradise. Many lodging places to park yourself for the weekend or longer...get a lay of the land so you can return another time. There are rentals galore and I'm partial to the ' three sisters cottage ' which is far more than a cottage that can be rented out with panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. Come over and discover Block Island this weekend and you will fall in love with it as I did as a child.
Now I can say that the real estate prices can be in the stratosphere now as huge homes have gone up by out of state residents building summer homes. But I can remember a time when I discovered it at 17 as a mother's helper for two summers and thought there couldn't be anymore beautiful place in the Northeast then this island. You couldn't keep me off the pristine beaches or hiking the bluffs with the kids I took care of. It cemented my desire, coming from Connecticut, to go to college here. I did and never left this state. My true heart will always feel that Block Island is that mystical and special place.
So I know you will appreciate the slower pace on Block Island this weekend when you enjoy the Taste of Block Island as an event to keep you returning for more of this island once you experience it! Remember it's the Taste of Block Island RI event June 4 - June 6 so ferry on over...
