It may seem like a comical statement but one of my clients wants more information on water
witching (no brooms, please!) for a piece of raw land he is interested in. I have had limited exposure myself to this fine art of locating a potential water source or watering hole on a piece of land. However, I have talked to a few old swamp yankee men in RI that have had success with hiring someone with a divining rod to locate water. No wonder they call it water witching...and I am neither a good or bad witch in this process...I just want to know about it. As a realtor I do need to have all good/bad information at hand for clients even as strange as this request may be.
Is it a lot of voodoo to use this type of exploration? Now this piece of raw land may be conducive to the tactical expertise of a water witcher (is that a word?) or a dowser because it's a 30+ acre parcel with little development around it. As I told him if it was in a more populated area I would say it would not be a great idea because water tables with the amount of development we have had in areas might give false readings.
My local swamp yankee experts with a long history of having success with water witching do believe it works. One did show me near a fire hydrant where a known water line is that it does work. And the metal rods (used in this case) crossed by the water line which is what they are suppose to do when water is below...so there is something to this approach. No there was no hocus pocus with this gentleman and it may be
less of an investment for my client. This is definitely an alternative approach but never say never to what worked in the past as bizarre as it sounds to me. I certainly know I'm not going to stop my client from exploring this exploration when his mind is made up. Now this is a Rhode Island property which in my research may have a lot of rock on it too so that is my concern with this water witching technique.
What experience or what do you know about water witching (without brooms, please)?
