Why I Chose Real Estate | Finding my Beat in Life

Why I Chose Real Estate | Finding my Beat in Life.  As I talk with clients, family and Ginny Lacey Gormanfriends about my journey in life to my final work destination of real estate, all I can do is smile.  Growing up in a very middle class area of Connecticut with a high powered 'ad man' for a dad and a stay at home mom, I had a pretty sheltered life.  What made me a person to proceed in all I did was the values, truths and respect for people that my family and especially my grandfather instilled in me.

Even as a little girl he was my favorite person
and I was his.  He taught me about financial sense, stock ownership, business success and failure, realities of the Depression and what it was to take risk in life.  I was a very lucky little girl.  I listened intently and learned.  He shared his real estate losses and successes too.

What it led me to do was to shelter myself for a long time by working for someone else -a big Bank.  It was risk adverse was it not.  Banks were revered years ago and what better career could I have chosen.  I did very well at my corporate jobs as the bosses moved me around to more challenging positions working for two banks on my path to a RI real estate career.

Challenging bumps in life occurred for sure...life threatening illness hit me but my belief in the future did not falter and I was given a reprieve.  You have not done all you need to do was what I felt then...there was a reason to do more in life.

James and John G.-sons of meritIt was becoming a chore by 2002 in banking
and the demands were incessant, the morals in life had left the powers that be, and less integrity and respect for people's lives churned my stomach everyday.  My exit plan had to begin.  I was now a divorced mom of two putting 2 wonderful sons through college on my own and making a jump was risky.  Remember this is the risk adverse woman here who enjoyed playing it safe.  What I did best always was make people feel comfortable, not get rattled at challenges, problems solved to the nth degree and delivered the customer service my banking clients loved.  Why not do this in real estate- I loved restoring homes and did it time and time again.  The treasure and stories a house tells is lingering.

There was not a beat missed in this transition
to a self sought after real estate career that offered me myself back.  I again was able to take charge and direction of how I did my business- my business was me.  Beginning my career centered in North Kingstown (the state's center) made sense - I knew all of southern RI like the back of my hand.

My clients knew I was transparent in all I did.  I was not a real estate salesman ( yes, the ABC- always be closing attitude of realtors was not me) but I was a wealth of information to lead buyers or sellers to make the right (hopefully) choice in a real estate deal.  It has been more than the right choice for me this real estate thing for sure.  I am so sorry it took me so long to find the right career for me and finding my beat in life.

When you do something with passion and love it shows in all you do everyday.  My most important job is that as a Mom- there is no doubt nothing trumps that one and my sons have been my best supporters.  But real estate is next and will take me forward to the end.  I can not see myself in any other profession where I can help so many people.  What a life I have been given.  This has been why I have chosen the path to real estate.  Why I Chose Real Estate | Finding my Beat in Life.
