Why do Buyers Look at Homes they Can Not Afford

Why do Buyers Look at Homes they Can Not Afford

It happens all the time to Sellers that home buyers (aka, purported home home buyers dream homebuyers) want to preview a new listing with their agent.  Yet, they are not pre-approved to buy at the price point the house is selling for.

I love to hear the reasons when an agent comes in to preview with their buyers or at an Open House...some of the ones that are common:

- We know we can buy this Home (really, you have a crystal ball that has to be duplicated so we can make billions from it!)

- I am about to get pre-approved to buy (fingers just not doing the walking over the phone touchpad yet)

- Always wondered what this house looked like on the inside

- Really thought it might be overpriced but I did not realize it was so updated (pictures clearly showed it as it is)

- Looking at any excuse to get my husband motivated to do house projects for us (you have to drag him out to open houses for that reason!)

- Perhaps the sellers will come down a lot to meet our pre-approved price!

- Just love the neighborhood and dream of living here.

There are many more but Open Houses are the way to tour homes you can not afford.  Do not call a Realtor to show you a home you can Not afford until you really are ready to buy, know your budget and have your pre-approval in hand at that price point.  Time is money and respect of other peoples lives and living should be reciprocal.  Dreaming is really for online sources like Houzz & Pinterest but action takes another step forward.

Can you think of other reasons?
