Another timeless expression we may use in real estate is 'all that glistens is not always gold'....well I'm thinking about this with a past sale and a chandelier that was a point of contention between the buyer and the seller. And for the life of me I couldn't understand how human emotion and lack of item value consumes people sometimes but here it is.
This real estate agent did ask for the chandelier to be removed prior to showing the house to prospective buyers but the seller chose not to heed the advice given to him. "It looks great there plus I like looking at it" was the much dreaded response one received. But you could replace it and put another there for awhile was a suggestion that just didn't work and I even offered to pay for it.
I can not find another chandelier like it since it's about 50 years old and really not of the best quality- okay actually it was funky. So I think we are at a standoff for now and here it is when sellers do not listen mindfully to their Realtor® who has previously encountered all sorts of issues with selling homes when it pertains to fixtures. This item did not block any waterfront home view or glisten with the setting of the sun mind you. It was in a row house in a notable RI city but it was a treasure to the seller.
Since I wrote this post a few months ago I was able to reach a happy accord between buyer and seller and for all to move on. I moved the seller into an apartment that just didn't have a place for a chandelier. Lo and behold this helped ease the parting with this chandelier. What was he going to do with it - put it in storage? No, I said wouldn't it be wonderful to allow someone else to share in it for many more years...he finally agreed. Sometimes the end point is really the game point!
Sellers do try to listen to your Realtor® when they make a worthwhile suggestion to you especially on items that you really want to take with you, remove them prior to listing your home. So All that glistens is not always gold...
