Carbon Monoxide Detectors Are No Joke in a Home

Must Have Carbon Monoxide Detectors In All Homes and Apartments

As a real estate agent I see this every day in homes I go into and that is the carbon dioxide detectorlack of updated or any carbon monoxide detectors on every floor of a home.  Yes, it means having a carbon monoxide detector in the basement too if you heat by gas or oil.

I had an experience last week in my own home with a Kidde carbon monoxide detector installed in 2014, self enclosed, that is suppose to last 10 years but did not!  Coming home to grab a 15 minute dinner before going to scheduled appointments my carbon monoxide detector was going off in my home.  It was intermittently doing the number of beeps that says there is carbon monoxide in the home.  I took it down & would buy another that evening or so I thought.  Appointments ran late and I had to run to 3 stores before I found one open, thank goodness for Home Depot's hours, and bought one.  Installed it and no carbon monoxide was found to be happening in my home.  The Kidde detector was malfunctioning.  I am sure this happens quite a bit so do not trust your detectors.  Have a back up detector in hand.  Of course if your detector is going off, call the Fire Department.  They rather find you alive and they are happy to come out and check your home out.

Actually I almost negligently thought I would go out and buy one the next day instead of the day it happened.  How foolish was that thought!!  Yet people do it all the time and your life, family & pets depend upon you to use common sense.  Make sure the carbon detectors are within 10 feet of EVERY bedroom too.

There was a Rossen Report on this same topic today which got me to write about my experience because I should know better than anyone.  Please go out and buy another carbon monoxide detector today.  Your life is worth it is it not?!
