Are Your Photos Yours?  Not if You Have Instagram - Update

Are Your Photos Yours?  Not if You Have Instagram.  Do you love Instagram?  It has been one of my favorite Iphone instagramapps to upload photos to Facebook and share on Twitter...but no longer.  Instagram as you probably have heard is changing their policy as of January regarding ownership of photos that have been shared with Instagram.  

Wrote this post this morning expecting it to go live and before I could INSTAGRAM is reversing their decision...well my account is deleted and perhaps will stay this way...do I trust them...no way.  It is such a fun app I am sorry that their TOS were taken to a whole other level!

Read Declan McCullagh's article on CNET to be fully informed.  Instagram is claiming your photos and has the right to sell them (like Iphoto) without your permission.  Pictures you have taken of family and friends can be out there on the internet for people to purchase and use at some point. My RI real estate pictures are mine and not ones I want others marketing.  More than troubling, it is totally invasive.  Since Instagram is owned by Facebook this gives an eerie feeling into what lies ahead for Facebook itself.

Make your choices and I for one have zip drived all my Instagram photos from them and have now deleted (sob, sob) my account.  They will own your photos according to them as of January 16th.  So get your photos dowloaded BEFORE you delete your account.  That is my suggestion but decide and make YOUR choice, do not let Instagram make it for you.  Perhaps the company will rethink their photo sale policies in the future but I do not want my pictures part of their portfolio.

A reprieve given for the diehard app holders...I am keeping my distance for now.
