Some Short Sales Really Break Your Heart. There is no doubt that I take much of my Rhode Island real estate business to heart. I wonder why I was created this way. However, I am who I am. Yet dealing in the world of short sales can put a
kind of armor around you as a real estate agent so you respectively keep the emotions locked up...as best you can.
I was thinking back on one of my short sales recently where I had to have the two short sale sellers in separate rooms in order to keep peace and buyers in another. Emotions can run high and most realtors do not talk about this side of a transaction but it impacts all involved.
The sellers were going their separate ways. The Banks were being tough with them and my legal team had fought with them for a number of months and had to reach a settlement that worked. Well it did not work well enough for the short sale sellers.
At the end of the closing, they both walked out and only one said good bye to me and thanked me. It did pain me because I had done my professional best as a North Kingstown short sale agent to make the financial end palatable. It just is that some short sales really break your heart.
Well it has been awhile and I sometimes wonder if one of the sellers had made it alright in their new life. Well I finally did receive a heartwarming message today that she had. She could tell me now how grateful she was for doing my best for them and appreciated it. She knew she could recover (like I told her this too would pass) in her life and move on. I am glad for the note letting me know...because some short sales really do break your heart.

Ginny, Thanks for sharing . I agree short sales, and sales due to divorce break my heart.
Good morning Ginny,
I'm sure your seller just needed time to absorb what happened and realize life goes on and she would be okay. I'm so glad she reached out to you to let you know she did appreciate all that you did to get them to the closing table so they could all move on!
Hi Ginny,
We can only do what we can. Even though it's hard to watch sometimes, there are times when I think we all loose when a short sale occurs.
Have a good and better day in North Kingstown.
Best, Clint mcKie
Ginny: Sometimes it is so tough to go through transactions with our clients...I always get close and sometimes it stings when things do not go as expected. Good to hear your seller has started to get her life back in order.
Good morning, Ginny..... we need to stay separated emotionally or it will do a number on you.... you're not a magician....you didn't cause the problem and you can't always resolve the issues that others created.....
Ginny, The emotional toll (especially in a case like this) is part of the reason we'd prefer not to work short sales. The banks lack the human element of compassion, just another business transaction to them.
There is no side to short sales without a struggle Ginny and no end in sight for them to stop any time soon. A successful short sale closing often only allows time for us to view what damage has been left in it's wake. Some are devastating others recover well and don't look back.
Ginny, it breaks your heart, because you have a heart of gold! I have to give you the GOLD MEDAL for working with short sales, as these can be so sad! Congratulations on the sale!
Ginny - as a home stager I've also seen this situation and you being such a kind and caring person it's not surprising that you heard back from the woman who thanked you for not only all your hard work, but your compassion! You are a special Realtor on all levels!
Gita, it is tough no matter what in these situations.
Dorie, moving on and out is what it is about now...
Clint, thanks for checking in.
Barbara, so true and on this one it was more difficult than most...
Bliz, i do understand it...this is my way of giving back to others
Kevin, i always say look forward ...leave the dark clouds behind & see the new day!
Joan, you are kind...they are here and short sale sellers need good help, right!
Kristine, appreciate the kind words.
Good morning Ginny -
Indeed you're right at times we work with some sad situations. I'm sure you handled your clients with great compassion and caring.
Ginny we can't completely shut down our feelings, but we do need to learn how to control them.
I have been to one of those Closings myself. The Realtor had to go as far as placing herself in the hallway between the two rooms to keep the two Sellers from going at one another.
Hi Ginny,
I admire the passion you have for your work; these aren't just business transactions to you, you seem to really care about the people you work with. I think that's what makes you a wonderful North Kingstown short sale agent. Good job!
Ginny - You always do such a good job in your short sales, and care so much about your clients. It is hard to not get involved with their lives, but it's ok to do so a little.... Some folks need to share this.
Looking forward to Tuesday!
