Ginny's RI House Hunt Blog: Providence Waterfire Heads to Rome

Providence Waterfire Heads to Rome

Providence Waterfire Heads to Rome.  Providence Waterfire Heads to Rome.  The Providence RI real estate WaterFireskyline is bordered by water and a wonderful canal.  From May to October the Providence WaterFires are held on the canals with 100+ braziers (iron wood holders) blazing throughout the canal. Fires stoked by gondola volunteers from dusk to the late night and wonderful Tuscan music either live or piped through the sound system occurs along the canal.

Providence Waterfires birthed this spectacular event.  Now Rome Italy wants to introduce WaterFires to their city.  Our Providence Mayor will inaugurate Waterfires in Rome, Italy with an inaugural lighting of 30 braziers on Rome's Eternal city’s on the  Tiber River.  "Greater Travel has ranked WaterFire, along with Paris at nightfall, among its greatest destinations after dark in the world,” said Mayor Taveras. This is exciting news to us who are diehard WaterFire fans.

To smell the burning wood wafting through the evening smells, the din of people milling around and sitting along the canal, embracing the moments with great music and sometimes swing dancing in the Plaza.  Such a Providence experience and a must RI destination when you come!

This is goes back to 1997 and WaterFire has taken shape and brought thousands to Providence and Rhode Island to experience this novel and sustaining artistic share.  Waterfront RI real estate is where I spend my time but in the evenings at least once a month, experiencing this glowing art form is a must.  Enjoying the amazing restaurants in and around Providence are all part of the atmosphere brought to WaterFire night!

Check the WaterFire schedule here and do not miss this evening experience. Providence Waterfire Heads to Rome.

Ginny - That sounds really interesting.  I've never heard of that before and how cool that Rome is going to do this, too.

Ginny: This is the first I have heard of the Waterfire too...sounds pretty interesting and a good reason (not that you need one) to go hang out near the water.

Good morning Ginny! The Providence Water fire sounds magical and how great is it that people volenteer to keep the fires burning all night long. Sounds like a sight to behold!

Ginny I grew up in Fox Point, just a short walking distance from the Water Fires.  That whole area is much different today than it was back then.  The city has done a great job of cleaning things up, and making it a place to be, in stead of a place to avoid, especially after dark.  Providence is a great example of how you can turn a negative part of the city into a happening place.
