I am on a Smoke Detector Rant - Hear me Homeowners

I am on a Smoke Detector Rant - Hear me Homeowners.  As a realtor I go into homes daily with home buyers lookingsmoke detectors at homes.  What disturbs me on end is the amount of times I see the smoke detectors hanging down with their batteries removed from them.  Please hear me when I say put the batteries back in.  It is a $2 cost well spent.

What I really want to focus on is the need for two types of smoke detectors in your home...not one but two!  Ionization and photoelectric smoke detectors.  Each reacts to fire and smoke in different ways and at different times on the continuum of saving your family.

I am on a Smoke Detector Rant - Hear me Homeowners

Recent testing by fire labs are showing a VAST difference in how smoke detectors alert homeowners when a fire is burning.

Ionization smoke detectors tend to respond quicker to fast fires and will alert you quicker.  Photoelectric smoke detectors will alert you sooner to ‘smoldering fires’ that will generate a lot of smoke.  So what are you to do?  Get both.  Check out this video now:

Do we all love cheap insurance?!  I believe so and want renters and homeowners to understand it is a safety item that you need to be aware and be proactive towards.  I know you want your family safe so go out and ensure you have both types of smoke detectors in your home with working batteries today.  It may be trite to say but 'your life may depend upon it'.  This is a public service blog brought to you by your waterfront RI Realtor, Ginny Lacey Gorman.  I am on a Smoke Detector Rant - Hear me Homeowners.

Hi Ginny,

KIDD has a new smoke detector out there now in stores. This one is good for twenty years and has a new Nickle in cased battery.

Very good advice for the home owner and the seller.

You go girl. Suggested.

Have a great day in north Kingstown.

 Best, Clint McKie

Ginny: It is amazing to me that homeowners will put their families lives at risk over a $3 battery.

Hi Ginny.   Great public service blog!   I think the development of the different types confuses folks.    The smoke detector inspection law has changed here and most homeowners do not know seem to know about that.

Ginny, this was on our news last night too, time to get the old ones changed out, or at least one per floor so you are safe!  Great post Ginny!

Good post!  I am sure that most people have no idea that there are two types of smoke detectors.

Ginny I was listening to a news report on smoke detectors last night and they were recommending the use of the two types of smoke detectors as well.

This is great information, I didn't know the difference between the two types of smoke detectors and how they alert to different types of fires.

I love it when I walk into a home and the alarm is beeping like mad because the battery is low.  Yep, rant away, Ginny.

Ginny, great info and I agree no use in having them hanging. As a landlord we check our rentals often to make sure they are all in working order.
